Teaching Assistantships:
The Biology
Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Biology at
UNC, Charlotte has Teaching Assistantships (TAs)
available for full-standing students in this
program. These are awarded only as full
assistantships, and normally require a work load
equivalent to the teaching of two labs with
associated preparation each week. The student must
maintain a GPA of at least 3.0 and carry at
least six hours of course work per semester
to qualify for a TA. Students interested in a TA
award should notify the Ph.D. Coordinator.
A
full TA is a
competitive award.
A TA position is
awarded on a semester basis for fall and
spring semesters.
Summer TAs are awarded separately.
Renewal of a TA position is contingent upon
evaluations of teaching performance and
satisfactory progression through the program.
Notes:
1) The Department of
Biology commits to four years of full TA support for
PhD students, contingent upon satisfactory teaching
performance and progression through the program. Awards for additional years will be based
upon individual student situations, performance, and available
funds.
2) A faculty advisor can have no more than 2 PhD
students holding a TA position.
3) Students admitted after fall 2005 must
enroll for nine hours of course work per semester.
