General Zoology Lab               BIO 3236L           FALL 2005

General Zoology Lab is designed to introduce you to the diversity, anatomy and ecology of the major animal groups.  The lab has a taxonomic, phylogenetic and comparative approach.  You will examine the different animal phyla in a sequence that is thought to reflect evolutionary relationships and how the different phyla have responded to similar selective pressures.   You are responsible for identifying animals to phylum and class.  There is a great deal of information in lab, and you will be responsible for getting much of it on your own from your text book and lab manual.  You should read the relevant chapters in both books before coming to lab.  Without such preparation, the lab exercises will be confusing and you will waste much of the available time. 

Lab Grade:  Lab is worth a total of 650 points.  500 of these come from 5 major practicals, each worth 100 points.  One hundred points will come from 2 lab write-ups, worth 40 & 60 pts., respectively (write-ups handed in late will lose 3 pts. per day).  The remaining 50 points consist of small quizzes (about 40 points) and a subjective portion (about 10 points) based upon your use of lab time.
