What is AMSA?

          -From SAMA          AMSA

              ~ 1950 Student American Medical Association

              ~ 1968 American Medical Student Association ( 2 year process to become AMSA)

                      * Political and Activist Roots

                      * Women's Rights

                      * Military Medicine (Vietnam)

AMSA Today ?

        -Consists of 68,000 + Premed and Medical Students

        - Is a member of IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students Association)

                 ~ Consists of 1.2 Million Students in 95 Countries

         -National Leadership

                ~ Executive Board/ Board of Directors

  -Dates: October 16th - October 18th

  - Location: Emory University School of Medicine

  -Funds: Reimbursement (funding to be discussed at Interest Meeting)

Membership

   - National Membership

   -Local Membership

       ~ $15 a year

    - BOTH MEMBERSHIPS ARE REQUIRED

       ~ Sign-Up for only the amount of years you will be Pre-Med.

       ~ If you have 4 years left we recommend you buy them all at once.

-We will be selling FaceAIDS pins to raise money in advance.

               ~ please sign up to  help in this process.

-We will have a speaker coming from the CDC in addition to a local AIDS worker ( a Doctor)

-Treasurer

              ~ applications for this position will be posted on the website as well as sent through the listserv on

                 Monday November 9, 2009

              ~ the application will be due on November 23, 2009
