IMPORTANT:
This is a writing Intensive course. That means I will grade your assignments from the perspective of your quality of writing: organization, content, grammar, sentence structure, & reader quality. These are worth 4 points each, with the possibility of making up points upon re-write (for a maximum total of the 20 points for each essay). I will evaluate each writing assignment and return it to you for revision. IMPORTANT: you will turn in your final version of your essay AND a “corrected copy” that your reader provided upon which your final version is based – that is, I want to see what your reader suggested and what you incorporated. Quality of reader counts.
· I will be looking for improvement in basic ability, not the fact that you write in some perfect manner. You may want to make appointments at the Writing Resources Center in Fretwell for help on writing. See me for details.
Your essays should be 2 typed, double-spaced pages in length, using 12 point Roman type and 1” margins. You must do them on a computer to make it easier to make corrections, revisions, and check spelling. The length should be no more nor less than 2 pages, incl. brief references.
TOPICS for each of three essays (more details later):
1. What are some significant pros and cons of growing annuals or perennials from seed.
2. What are strengths and shortcomings of the USDA Hardiness Zone map.
3. Develop a comprehensive site analysis for your landscape project. More info at a later time.
There are no make‑up tests except in extreme circumstances. You must let me know in advance if you are going to miss a test and I will consider alternatives. Plan ahead so as to ensure you meet deadlines for exercises. Please let me know if you are having a problem. ASK QUESTIONS in class.
NOTE: You are encouraged to share information and learning experiences in the class. However, work turned in for grading is to be your own individual work.
Please remember that conduct in the course is dictated by the UNCC Code of Student Academic Integrity,
and it is the student's responsibility to be familiar with the provisions of the Code.
